As explained in this documentation, you need to create a file and select the Copy from FTP folder option.
This is useful when you want to upload many large files at once so you get rid of the HTTP upload method and PHP uploads limitations.
If you were actually expecting to just drop files into your FTP, and see some private file contents to be automatically generated, and automatically assigned to some specific users, this is doable, but not out of the box. You’ll need to hire a developer to do that because the script should be written specifically to your needs. The free plugin already provides the required functions to do that. However, this would be a specific request, out of our support scope, not much that we can do except guide you through our functions or add the hooks and filters you would need.
